West Clermont Opportunity

Recently our PTO President was sent some information from a parent from Merwin about a program opening up in our West Clermont community to offer our children similar opportunities to learn about the arts as they would in a school setting if offered.  Here is some information from that letter:

"There is a new Center for the Arts that is opening up at 1118 Ferris Road.  It is called Second Story.
I have no affiliation with the center but have become involved in launching it because I feel strongly about the positive impact the arts play on our community and kids.

Jim Jung, the founder, and I have been working together and both feel that with your help, we can provide a fun, safe environment in which WT students and their families can experience the arts.  Second Story is having a "Free Sampler" Open House on Saturday, October 29th from 1pm-5pm.  We will provide and sort all print materials needed for your students as well as any announcement needs for your newsletters and all-calls.  In exchange, Second Story will give you $5.00 for every registration that it generates.  Because classes typically run on an 8 week cycle, this would be a long-term relationship of building into our students.  It is really that simple.  I will coordinate everything and all you have to do it sit back and watch another fundraiser take off.

Attached is a letter from Jim Jung, the founder of Second Story, a sample of the registration form, and the flyer which would be distributed to the students.

I have been distributing postcards/flyers in order to promote and bring the arts to our community. Actually, a couple of weeks ago, your principal allowed me to distribute them to all her students.  I strongly believe that arts of all types (whether it be theater, drawing, sculpting, music, photography, etc,) are imperative to build a well-rounded education and individual.

Physiologically, the human brain consists of 2 parts, the left and the right hemisphere.  The left brain is used in logical thinking and analytical processes.  This is typically what is trained in school work that consists of math, reading and science.  The right brain is used in emotional perception, intuition and creativity.  It is the right brain that is mainly used when a person is involved in creative endeavors such as the arts.  It is this part of the brain that typical school environment neglects to train.
Children who regularly participate in a comprehensive arts program are four-times more likely to be elected to class office; four-times more likely to be in a math or science fair, and four-times more likely to win an award for writing, according to research published by Americans for the Arts."

What do you think?  There will be info coming out soon for you to take a closer look at what this program has to offer.  Hey, nothing wrong with looking at all aspects of our children's learning.  Even if it isn't through the school system.

First Final Day Fun Day at WT

On the last day of each month all students will participate in a fun activity that will focus on one of four areas;music, art, literacy or physical activity.  Teachers will work together with their grade level to create activities that will be fun and engaging for all students.

We are asking that parents help us kick off our 1st event by sending in snacks for students.  Snack foods will be shared across all grade levels.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade: Juice boxes or Juice pouches.  3rd, 4th and 5th grade:  bags of pretzels or gold fish crackers.

You can begin sending in items immediately.  Be sure to have your snacks and drinks here NO LATER THAN October 28th!

October 31st will also be team spirit day at WT.  Students should dress in their favorite team gear.  Bobcat Spirit items will be handed out all day to the ultimate fans.
